Reports that Christian Atsu has been found alive have been denied by Hatayspor club doctor, Gurbey Kahveci.
The Ghanaian international is still missing following a devastating earthquake that hit Turkey in the early hours of Monday morning.
“When we heard the news that he was taken to Dortyol Hospital, we especially went and looked, but he was not there. At the moment, we accept that [the sporting director] Savut Taner and Christian Atsu were not found unfortunately” Gurbey revealed in an interview with Hurriyet Turkey.
Atsu climbed off the bench to score 97th minute winner for Hatayspor against Kasimpasa on the eve of the disaster.
A search and rescue operation is currently in progress to find the former Chelsea star.
The death toll in southern Turkey and northern Syria continues to rise following the two earthquakes which have wrecked towns and smaller settlements across a large region.
