VIDEO: Prince Ampem scores in HNK Rijeka win at Hajduk Split

Ghana forward Prince Ampem scored to help HNK Rijeka beat Hajduk Split 2-1 away in the Adriatic derby in the Croatian top flight on Sunday.

It was the 24-year-old – who was playing as a left-back for the visitors – who broke the deadlock in the 65th minute by striking a low shot from close range after the Split goalkeeper blocked an initial attempt.

Ampem, the former WAFA SC trainee, however, had to make way for Alen Grgić in the 77th minute.

Matija Frigan then made it 2-0 with a diving header in the 83rd minute.

There was a dramatic end to the game as Hajduk Split won two penalties late on but scored one. Marko Livaja converted the first penalty in the 90th minute but saw his second in the 5th minute of additional time saved by Rijeka goalkeeper Nediljko Labrović.

HNK Rijeka occupy position 8 in the 10-team 2022/23 Croatian Hrvatska Nogometna Liga (HNL) standings with 22 points from 20 matches.
