Ghana forward Felix Afena-Gyan was the hero as ten-man Cremonese eliminated Napoli from the Coppa Italia Tuesday night.
The visitors, bottom of Serie A, took the lead at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona through Charles Pickel.
First-half goals from Juan Jesus and Giovanni Simeone turned the game on its head.
But Afena-Gyan – who came off the bench in the 65th minute – levelled late on.
The Ghanaian’s 87th-minute header ensured extra time where they were reduced to 10 men following a red card to Leonardo Sernicola.
Cremonese, however, prevailed 5-4 in the shootout with Afena-Gyan netting the decisive penalty to knock Napoli out and set up a quarterfinal date with AS Roma.
Felix Afena-Gyan has scored twice since joining Cremonense in the summer with both goals coming in the Coppa Italia.
