Spanish international of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams has described Black Stars exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as “shameful“.
The Black Stars were booted out in the first round of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay, having lost to Portugal in a five-goal thriller in the opener.
After defeating South Korea in their second group game, the Black Stars needed a draw at the very least to progress to the last 16 but failed to secure a point.
“The elimination of Ghana was a shame.” The Spaniard told reports.
His brother, Inaki featured for Ghana at the tournament after availing himself despite being born in Spain. Nico believes his elder sibling will “recover” from the excruciating exit.
“Getting knocked out in a World Cup is painful, but he’s [Inaki] very strong and he’s going to recover very quickly. I think he’s going to assimilate it well.”
Inaki Williams has played six matches for Ghana and yet to score.
