Uruguay forward Luis Suarez insists he has nothing to apologize for ahead of their crucial encounter with Ghana in the final Group H game on Friday.

The former Barcelona striker was at the centre of controversy when they two sides met in the quarter-finals of the 2010 edition in South Africa.

Suárez deliberately handled the ball deep on the goalline in extra time to prevent a certain goal, with Asamoah Gyan missing the resulting spot-kick.

Despite Suárez’s dismissal, Uruguay made the Africans pay in the shootout.

Ahead of Friday’s encounter, Suarez was asked during a press conference if he’d apologize to Ghanaian on the 2010 incident, and his response was;

“I don’t apologise about that because I did the handball, but the Ghana player missed the penalty, not me.

“Maybe I can say an apology if I did a tackle, injured a player, and took a red card. But in this situation, I took a red card, the ref said penalty, (and) it’s not my fault, because I didn’t miss the penalty.

“The player who missed the penalty, he said he would do the same in this situation. It’s not my responsibility, to shoot the penalty.”
