Newly retired from FC Barcelona, Gerard Pique has responded to the possibility of his presence in the list of Spain for the 2022 World Cup.
On November 5, Gérard Piqué played the 616th and last match of his career with FC Barcelona against Almeria. A few days later, it was on an expulsion that the Spanish central defender put an end to his professional career, against Osasuna, a red card received off the field following a heated dispute with the refereeing body. Does this mean that we will no longer see the 35-year-old player on a lawn? Nothing is less sure. If he will no longer play in a club, Gérard Piqué could on the other hand come full circle with Spain. As revealed by the newspaper brandthe 2010 world champion is on La Roja coach Luis Enrique’s pre-list for the 2022 World Cup (November 20-December 18), along with Paris Saint-Germain central defender Sergio Ramos.
“I did not think about it”
While waiting for the verdict with the publication of the final list, this Friday, the main interested party gave his opinion. In remarks relayed by the daily acethe native of Barcelona kicked into touch and pretends not to be interested in his presence in Qatar. “That’s what they say. I haven’t spoken to anyone about it and it depends on the FEF (the Spanish Football Federation, editor’s note). There are those who publish it and those who do not publish it. I don’t know when the list comes out, really. I don’t know how it works. I don’t even know what day he said it. I did not think about it. I devoted myself to saying goodbye.” The Spaniards, who inherited Group E, will challenge Costa Rica (Wednesday 23 November), Germany (Sunday 27 November) and Japan (Thursday 1 December).
