Former Super Eagles winger, Tijani Babangida has called on the Nigerian Football Federation to approach Ghana for a friendly match in place of Egypt in case the proposed tie fails.
Recent reports in the media had it that the major sponsor of the match had pulled out but the NFF came out with a statement that the game will still go on as they have not been officially told about the cancellation of the tie.
Babangida, who is the Chairman of FC Taraba, urged the NFF to consider games that will steer up the morale of the players ahead of the World Cup and Nations Cup qualifiers in June.
“There is nothing wrong in approaching good opponents in the likes of Ghana and Zambia, for them to give the Super Eagle a slice of real opposition.
“This will boost the players’ confidence ahead of the matches in June,†Babangida noted.
On the possibility of the cancellation of the Egyptian affecting the Eagles, the former Ajax FC star said it won’t but added that the technical crew needs to pressurise the NFF to fix another tie in order for them (coaches) to access the fitness of the players.
“No, it will not affect the team’s preparation for the matches in June. There is still enough time for the Nigerian Football Federation to look for other tougher opponents for the team, so the technical crew would be able to access the lads’ shape ahead of the ties,†Babangida said.
However, the Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold medalist expressed joy over the present probe going in Nigerian sports, stressing that the NFF should end its protracted illegality.
“Well, everything is on the right part now but the NFF should solve the issue of its legality fast enough so we will all face football proper on the pitch,†Babangida added.
