Officials of New Edubiase have confirmed owing players salaries but assured steps are being taken to solve the problem as soon as possible.
The players in protest of their outstanding salaries which according to sources are running to four months in arrears boycotted training on Tuesday only to return the day after following some part-payment.
They have however threatened to go on an extended strike including boycotting league matches if the remaining monies are not paid but management member Abdul Salam Adams says the players’ stance is very unfortunate as the club finds ways of solving the problem.
“We are surprised at the development which started after our game against Kotoko,” he told Takoradi-based Melody FM.
“It is true we owe salary arrears but I believe it is not our wish like any other club to owe players their salaries and we are taking steps to deal with the problem.
“We are in the process of finding the money to pay them off and we are baffled by their behaviour.
“We don’t compare ourselves with any clubs but I believe management have always done its best to honour its financial obligations to the players but we had a blip on this occasion and we are surprised by their behaviour.
“Yes we owe them but I don’t think it helps team spirit especially on current form with their behaviour and it is really shameful for us with their reaction.”
Edubiase are currently placed sixth in the Ghanaian topflight with eight matches left to run.
