5 things to look out for in the EFL

The Championship takes centre stage in the EFL this weekend as teams from League One and League Two enter the FA Cup first round.

Burnley moved five points clear at the top of the second-tier on Wednesday as they twice came from behind to beat Rotherham 3-2.

This weekend’s action sees another managerial debut as Liam Rosenior takes charge of Hull City for the first time. They travel to Millwall.

But, as always, there’s lots to keep your eye on in the EFL this weekend – here’s five things to watch out for.

Vinny-time at Bramall Lane?

Burnley scored twice in stoppage time to beat Rotherham in midweek, with Halil Dervisoglu’s winner coming in the 10th added minute.

The Clarets sit top of the table ahead of their trip to Sheffield Utd on Saturday (12:30 kick-off). Vincent Kompany’s side are the only team in the EFL yet to lose on a Saturday this season, winning six and drawing three of their nine games.

Burnley are currently unbeaten in seven on the road in the league. An away win is currently priced at 15/8. While a Burnley goal in both halves is 4/1 with Enhanced Odds.

Rosenior to get the Tigers roaring?

Liam Rosenior is back at Hull City. The former interim Derby boss played 161 times for the Tigers in his career and watched from the stands as they were beaten 3-1 by Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Will Rosenior’s arrival bring a change in fortune for Hull? Ahead of kick-off they’re only one point above the bottom three.

Hull’s away form has been good of late, winning their last two. The Tigers are 10/3 to make that three in a row against Millwall. However, the Lions have won 15 home league matches in 2022. It’s 10/3 they win with both teams scoring.

Watch out for Ward

Blackburn missed the chance to go top of the table on Tuesday after a 1-0 defeat to Coventry. That, combined with Burnley’s late win, sees Rovers five points adrift of local rivals.

They welcome Huddersfield to Ewood Park on Saturday, a side they have only lost once to at home in their last 11 meetings (W4 D6). Away from home, the Terriers have conceded 14 goals in seven games and only picked up two points. Rovers to win a game with three or more goals is 2/1.

One glimmer of hope for Huddersfield could be striker Danny Ward. He’s scored four goals in his last four Championship starts against Blackburn. Ward is 7/1 to open the scoring and 10/3 to net at any time.

Look out for clean sheets

The defences could be on top at Vicarage Road as Watford entertain Coventry.

Watford have won 17 of their last 21 home matches in the Championship (D1 L3) and have kept 14 clean sheets in that run.

Meanwhile, Coventry have kept things tight on the road recently, not conceding an away goal since a 2-2 draw with Luton in September – four games ago.

You can get 17/2 on a goalless draw in this one.

Birmingham to pile the pressure on Neil?

After three successive losses, Stoke got back to winning ways at Wigan on Wednesday thanks to Josh Tymon’s second-half strike. Will that inspire the Potters to claim only their third home win of the season?

Birmingham make the short trip to Stoke on Saturday, with the Blues looking to climb into the top half with a win.

Alex Neil’s home record in the division offers the visitors plenty of hope. The Scot has only won seven of his last 32 home Championship matches (D8 L17) and has lost his last two.

Birmingham to win is currently priced at 13/5, while Stoke to climb above their opponents with a win is 21/20
