USM Alger won the CAF Super Cup for a second time after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday, 08 November 2026.
Zakaria Draoui, Saadi Radouani and Ahmed Khaldi scored for the reigning TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup winners, while Iqraam Rayners replied with a penalty for Sundowns.
The Algerian club, who also lifted the trophy in 2023, earned USD 500,000 in prize money. Their victory followed last season’s TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup success against Zamalek, secured on penalties.
The result means TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup winners have claimed four of the past five CAF Super Cup titles. Egypt’s Pyramids FC are the only TotalEnergies CAF Champions League winners to have won the trophy during that period.
Khaldi decisive as USM Alger take control
USM Alger took the lead after only four minutes. Khaldi advanced into the area from the right, avoided a challenge and sent a low cross towards goal, allowing Draoui to finish from close range.
Sundowns’ preparations had already been disrupted when Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos was injured during the warm-up. Coach Miguel Cardoso replaced him with Cassius Mailula, before another injury forced a further change after 15 minutes.
Brayan Leon went off with an apparent groin problem and was replaced by Rayners, who quickly made an impact. Sundowns were awarded a penalty after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review for handball, and Rayners sent Oussama Benbot the wrong way in the 25th minute.
The hosts nearly went ahead when Thapelo Morena met a delivery from Mailula, but Benbot made an important save. USM Alger then restored their lead in the 37th minute when a header from a corner hit the crossbar and Radouani reacted fastest to head in the rebound.
Adverse weather delayed the start of the second half, but USM Alger soon extended their advantage. In the 55th minute, Khaldi cut inside from the edge of the area and curled a superb effort beyond Ronwen Williams and into the far corner.
Sundowns struggled to break down an organised Algerian defence despite spells of possession. Teboho Mokoena had a shot deflected for a corner, while Cardoso introduced Antonio van Wyk as he looked for an attacking response.
Williams prevented a heavier defeat with a fingertip save from Khaldi’s volley and another excellent stop to turn Dramane Kamagate’s low shot around the post with about 15 minutes remaining.
Sundowns appeared to score an own goal late on, but VAR ruled it out after the ball had crossed the touchline earlier in the move.
The defeat follows Sundowns’ 2025/26 CAF Champions League triumph over Morocco’s AS FAR. They were also eliminated by Angola’s Wiliete SC in the qualifying rounds of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and will not defend their title in this season’s Group Stage.
