Liverpool ended their losing run with a 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, as goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak secured all three points for the visitors.
Crystal Palace created the clearer chances early on, with Yeremy Pino twice going close in the 18th minute. His first effort, a header, was saved by Alisson Becker, before he struck the crossbar with his next attempt.
Liverpool had enjoyed the greater share of possession during the opening stages, but Palace continued to threaten. Alisson was called into action again shortly before half-time when Adam Wharton tested him with a header.
The visitors, however, took the lead in the 40th minute. Mac Allister finished to put Liverpool ahead and give them a 1-0 advantage at the interval.
Liverpool extended their lead nine minutes after the restart, with Wirtz scoring in the 54th minute. The goal strengthened the visitors’ control of the match and left Palace facing a difficult task to recover.
Palace attempted to find a way back into the game, but Liverpool managed the contest effectively and restricted the hosts’ opportunities. The visitors also remained a threat at the other end.
Ronald Araujo headed wide from a corner, while Wirtz forced a save from Dean Henderson during the closing stages as Liverpool searched for a third goal.
That goal arrived in the 89th minute when Isak found the net to complete a comfortable afternoon for the visitors.
Liverpool registered 20 shots during the match, with eight on target. Palace had 19 attempts, seven of which required saves or intervention from Alisson.
The result gives Liverpool a valuable three points after their recent run of defeats. Palace will reflect on missed opportunities, particularly their chances in the first half, when they might have taken the lead before Mac Allister’s opener.
