Ferencvarosi recorded a historic 2-0 victory over Milan at San Siro on Thursday, adding to the Italian side’s difficult Europa League campaign just days after their derby win against Inter.
Lenny Joseph scored both goals for the Hungarian visitors, striking in the 52nd and 66th minutes. On each occasion, he finished moves created by team-mate Christopher Zachariassen.
The result was particularly damaging for Milan because it came after their 3-1 victory over Inter in the Milan derby. The Rossoneri remain on three points and sit 26th in the Europa League table, while Ferencvarosi moved up to 12 points in second place, behind leaders Bournemouth on goal difference.
Milan were unable to respond despite creating several opportunities during the match. Their task was helped when Ferencvarosi were reduced to 10 men after Bamidele Yusuf was sent off in the 77th minute, but the hosts still could not find a way past the Hungarian defence.
The defeat is Milan’s third in the competition this season. They began with a 2-0 home loss to Portuguese club Benfica before suffering a three-goal defeat away to Bournemouth.
Their only Europa League victory came against Austrian side Salzburg, whom they beat 4-0.
Ferencvarosi’s win represents a significant result at San Siro and strengthens their position near the top of the league phase, while Milan’s limited points total leaves them 26th after four rounds.
