Greek striker Anastasios Douvikas moved to the top of the Champions League scoring standings after scoring a hat-trick in Como’s record 9-1 victory over Lens.
Douvikas struck in the seventh, 32nd and 57th minutes as Como produced the biggest win in the history of the Champions League. The match was played at Bollaert on Wednesday evening during the fourth round of the competition’s league phase.
His treble took his total for Como in this season’s tournament to six goals, placing him clear at the top of the scoring chart after four rounds.
The forward’s performance also changed the picture at the top of the standings for Erling Haaland. The Manchester City striker began his match against German side Leipzig with four goals and appeared to have taken first place after scoring the decisive goal in his team’s 3-2 victory.
However, Douvikas’s three-goal contribution meant Haaland finished the round in second place, with five goals rather than six.
Haaland shares that position with Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi, who also scored during his side’s match against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday. Tresoldi’s goal took him level with the Manchester City striker after the fourth round of fixtures.
Seven other players are tied in third place on four goals. That group includes Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, who occupy the first and second positions respectively in this year’s Ballon d’Or race.
Barcelona forward Raphinha is also among the players with four goals, continuing a list that features several of the leading attacking names in the competition. Douvikas, however, is currently the only player to have reached six goals.
Como’s emphatic result against Lens provided the Greek international with the platform to lead the standings, with all three of his goals arriving at decisive stages of the match. His early opener gave Como the advantage, the second extended their control before half-time, and his 57th-minute strike completed the hat-trick.
The 9-1 scoreline established a new record margin of victory in the Champions League, while Como’s attacking display ensured that Douvikas’s individual achievement overshadowed Haaland’s latest decisive contribution for Manchester City.
