Argentine footballer Nicolas Abot is seeking a move to Cape Verde as he attempts to become the first player to score goals on all five continents.
The 41-year-old, known as ‘The Football Backpacker’, has represented 43 clubs in 14 countries during a career that began almost two decades ago. He has already found the net in South America, Europe, Asia and North America, leaving Africa as the only remaining continent in his challenge.
Abot is hoping former Cape Verde international goalkeeper Vozinha can help him secure an opportunity with one of his former clubs.
“Vozinha, I need you to send a little message to your former club in Cape Verde so I can fulfil my dream,” Abot told Flashscore in an exclusive interview.
The Argentine believes completing the feat could earn recognition from Guinness World Records. He considers scoring in five continents to be a distinctive achievement, even though German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel famously played on all seven continents.
Abot’s journey began in 2007, when he left Argentine club Olimpo to continue his career in Costa Rica. Since then, he has moved through a wide range of football environments, adapting to different languages, cultures and playing conditions.
Much of that career has been built without the help of an agent. It has also included contractual disputes and difficult circumstances, including temperatures of minus 20 degrees during his time playing in Latvia.
Those experiences have not reduced his desire to continue. Abot remains determined to find a club in Africa and move within one goal of completing a record he believes would be unique in football.
“Football is a way of life for me. It opened many doors for me, but above all, it gave me the love to fight for what I want,” he added.
For Abot, the search for a Cape Verde club is the latest stage in a career shaped by constant movement and a willingness to take opportunities wherever they arise. A successful move would give him the chance to score in Africa and complete his five-continent ambition.
In a separate football update, Ghana defender Marvin Senaya marked his return from injury for Auxerre in a defeat by Strasbourg.
