Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel is in intensive care after suffering a serious injury during the club’s match against Andorra in the Spanish second division.
The player lost consciousness after a heavy collision with Andorra goalkeeper Uno during the closing stages of the game. Tenerife said in the early hours of Tuesday that De Miguel’s neurological condition had deteriorated.
“Jesus de Miguel’s neurological condition has worsened. More information will be released in the coming hours,” the club said in a statement.
Tenerife had earlier confirmed that the 31-year-old was taken to the intensive care unit at Nuestra Senora de Candelaria University Hospital. At that stage, the club described his condition as stable but serious, adding that medical staff were staying with him and monitoring his progress.
The incident happened in added time at the end of the second half, with the score level at 2-2. De Miguel chased an aerial ball close to the halfway line, while Uno came out strongly in an attempt to reach it. The two players collided, and the Tenerife forward fell to the ground unconscious.
Players from both sides immediately called for medical assistance. Uno was shown a red card, while De Miguel was carried from the pitch on a stretcher before being taken by ambulance to La Candelaria Hospital.
Reports said De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest following the collision. His condition stabilised during the ambulance journey, but he arrived at hospital still unconscious.
Referee Perez Hernandez informed the captains and managers of both teams that the match would be suspended. Players were left shocked by the incident, and several of De Miguel’s team-mates later went to the hospital to check on him.
The fixture information accompanying the report lists Tenerife’s next Segunda Division match as a home game against Mallorca on 08 November 2026.
It also lists a Copa del Rey fixture involving CD Badajoz on 04 November 2026.
