Ghana have lost their opening two qualifiers without scoring in either beneficial result. They were beaten 2-0 by Ivory Coast in Bouake before suffering a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Those results led to the resignation of head coach Carlos Queiroz. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation then began the process of finding a new substantive manager.
A five-member committee, chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, was appointed to oversee the recruitment process. However, the committee decided that an interim technical team should lead the Black Stars through the matches against Somalia.
Bjorkegren to lead interim set-up
Kim Lars Bjorkegren will take charge of the team, assisted by Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram. Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has been appointed as the goalkeeper trainer.
The interim coaches are expected to finalise and name their squad later this week, with preparations for the two fixtures now gathering pace.
Ghana currently sit bottom of Group C with no points from their first two matches. The back-to-back games against Somalia give the Black Stars an opportunity to revive their qualification hopes, but they face pressure after their disappointing opening results.
The team are also seeking a return to the continental finals after missing the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. Their absence followed another unsuccessful qualifying campaign.
