Ghana’s Black Queens have been nominated for the Women’s National Team of the Year prize at the 2026 CAF Awards.
The senior women’s national team is one of 10 sides in contention for the award after a year that included appearances at major international competitions and a crucial victory in the African play-offs.
Ghana will compete with Algeria, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa for the honour.
The nomination follows the Black Queens’ campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Ghana reached the quarter-finals of the tournament but were eliminated after a 2-1 defeat by Malawi.
Their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup remained alive, however, as they responded by beating Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in the African play-offs.
That result secured Ghana a place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup inter-confederation play-offs, giving the team another opportunity to pursue qualification for the 2027 tournament.
The team’s inclusion in the shortlist is part of a strong Ghanaian presence in the women’s categories at this year’s CAF Awards.
Black Queens captain Portia Boakye is among the nominees for Women’s Player of the Year, while goalkeeper Cynthia Findiib Konlan has been shortlisted for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
The nominations recognise individual contributions alongside the national team’s performances during a significant year for Ghanaian women’s football.
The 2026 CAF Awards will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, on 7 December. The ceremony will honour Africa’s outstanding footballers, teams and coaches.
