Racing Santander’s frustration boiled over during their 3-0 defeat by Real Madrid, with players objecting strongly to several refereeing decisions, particularly the penalty awarded to Kylian Mbappe.
The Cantabrian side were angered further because video assistant referee technology did not intervene to review the incident, which they believed warranted closer examination.
Inigo Vicente was among the most visibly frustrated Racing players. He left the pitch in the 82nd minute after manager Jose Alberto Lopez replaced him with Guliashvili.
As he made his way off, Vicente turned towards the fourth official and delivered an angry remark captured by DAZN cameras.
“Goodness, you have two fewer testicles!” he said.
In Spanish culture, the expression is used to suggest that someone lacks courage and is acting in a cowardly manner. The exchange reflected the tension which had taken hold of Racing’s players during the closing stages of the match.
The incident that prompted much of the anger came when Mbappe received the ball inside the penalty area and attempted to turn towards goal. He then appeared to feel contact from Prati against his body.
The referee judged the challenge sufficient to award Real Madrid a penalty, a decision which led to strong protests from the home players.
The defeat left Racing Santander upset not only by the scoreline but also by what they regarded as a key decision in the match. Real Madrid went on to complete a 3-0 victory.
