Udinese will attempt to achieve a feat they have not managed for 28 years when they host Roma in Serie A on Saturday, 31 October 2026.
The match is one of three fixtures opening the 10th round of the Italian top flight, which is broadcast on stc tv. Bologna host Monza before Milan face Inter in the Milan derby.
Roma sit third in the table with 21 points, while Udinese are 17th on five points.
According to Opta statistics, Udinese have won two of their past four home league meetings with Roma. That is the same number of victories they recorded in their previous 12 home games against the capital club, a run which also included two draws and eight defeats.
Udinese kept a clean sheet in the most recent meeting between the sides at their ground and will now seek consecutive home shutouts against Roma for the first time in the competition’s history.
They also won the last Serie A encounter between the teams. However, Udinese have not beaten Roma in successive league meetings since the period between 1997 and 1998, when they recorded four consecutive victories under Alberto Zaccheroni.
Contrasting starts
Udinese have collected only five points from their opening nine league matches this season. Their only worse start came in 1961-62, when they had three points.
Their scoring form has also deteriorated. They have scored just once in their past five Serie A games and have failed to find the net in each of their last three.
Udinese have not gone four consecutive league matches without scoring since April 2025. That remains the only such run in the club’s history during the era in which three points have been awarded for a win.
Roma, by contrast, have scored 23 goals in Serie A this season. They have exceeded that total after the opening 10 rounds in only four campaigns: 26 goals in 1960-61, 24 in 2013-14, 25 in 2015-16 and 26 in 2016-17.
Roma player Emanuele Lulli scored his second league goal of the season at the age of 19 years and 71 days. If he scores against Udinese at 19 years and 75 days, he will become one of the youngest players in Roma’s history to reach three Serie A goals.
Only seven younger players have achieved that milestone for the club, with Francesco Totti the most recent in 1995.
Udinese have lost their last four home league matches and failed to score in each of the last three. They have not suffered five successive home defeats since February to May 2018, when they lost six in a row.
They have also not played four consecutive home league matches without scoring in the same season since October 1993 to January 1994, when they went five games without a goal.
Roma’s first four away matches this season produced two wins and two draws. They last remained unbeaten in their opening five away league games in 2019-20, when they recorded three wins and two draws.
