Raja Club Athletic are considering ending Paco Jemez’s time as head coach after a run of poor results increased pressure on the Spanish manager.
The club’s board has lost patience with the team’s continued failure to collect points in the Moroccan league, while supporters have called for an immediate change in the dugout.
According to Moroccan website Hesport, Raja have decided to discuss terminating Jemez’s contract following their latest draw with Hassania Agadir. The manager has been unable to deliver the results expected by the club or produce performances that match the ambitions of its supporters.
Raja’s management is expected to meet Jemez in the coming period to discuss the terms of a separation. The two sides could seek an agreement to end the contract by mutual consent, allowing the club to begin its search for a new head coach.
The board has already started examining potential replacements, with the aim of finding a manager capable of stabilising the squad and lifting Raja from their current position. The club want to challenge strongly for honours and restore their status among the leading teams in Moroccan and African football.
The latest draw, played against Hassania Agadir at Stade Al Arbi Zaouli in Casablanca, added to the pressure on Jemez and placed his future under renewed scrutiny. Raja’s failure to turn possession and performances into victories has caused concern inside the club, with few clear signs of improvement.
Supporters’ anger has extended beyond the results. In recent weeks, fans have demanded Jemez’s dismissal and held Raja’s management office and sports company responsible for the team’s negative results and subdued performances.
The club must now make important decisions quickly, with a demanding run of domestic and continental fixtures approaching and confidence needing to be restored.
Three successive draws deepen Raja’s troubles
Raja have failed to win any of their past three Moroccan league matches, drawing with Maghreb Fes, FUS Rabat and Hassania Agadir in that order.
They began the campaign with a victory over Nahdat Zemamra but were unable to build on that result. Raja have since slipped to 11th in the table with six points, raising questions about their ability to compete at the top end of the division.
Their next match is against Renaissance Berkane on Sunday in the sixth round of the Moroccan league. The fixture could prove significant for the coaching staff, given the mounting pressure on Jemez and Raja’s need to return to winning ways.
Al Ahly meetings add to uncertainty
The potential coaching change also has implications for Raja’s African campaign. They are in the same CAF Confederation Cup group as Al Ahly, Kara of Togo and Primeiro de Agosto of Angola.
The two matches between Al Ahly and Raja will take place in the third and fourth rounds of the group stage. A change in management could lead to a different-looking Raja side when the games are played.
Al Ahly are scheduled to host Raja at Cairo Stadium between 18 and 20 December, before the Egyptian club travel to face their Moroccan opponents between 8 and 10 January. The competition listing also gives 19 December 2026.
Raja have not officially confirmed the terms of any departure or identified Jemez’s successor, but developments are expected as the club seeks to calm supporters and correct its course before the next domestic and continental commitments.
