Arsenal have held initial informal discussions over a new contract for captain Martin Odegaard, with the Norway midfielder attracting interest from several leading European clubs.
Odegaard’s name has emerged as a subject of discussion at Bayern Munich, according to Sky Sport, although his current Arsenal deal runs until the summer of 2028.
The 27-year-old has maintained regular contact with Bayern over recent years, but no transfer has materialised. The possibility of a move has gained renewed attention as Arsenal seek to secure the long-term future of their attacking midfielder.
Arsenal are keen to avoid Odegaard entering the final year of his contract. That would increase the risk of the club losing one of their key players on a free transfer in 2028.
Sky Sport reports that, if an agreement over an extension cannot be reached, Arsenal could later consider selling Odegaard next summer. The player has also received enquiries from several other major European teams.
Bayern, however, do not currently regard the situation as requiring an immediate response. While Odegaard is understood to be initially open to the prospect of joining the German club, he is not presently among Bayern Munich’s highest-priority transfer targets.
Odegaard has become one of Arsenal’s most important players since joining permanently. Under manager Mikel Arteta, he has developed into one of Europe’s leading attacking midfielders and has played a central role both on the pitch and in the dressing room as captain.
The Norway international moved to Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 for about 35m euros, following a six-month loan spell. He has since made 248 official appearances for Arsenal, scoring 46 goals and providing 47 assists.
Odegaard has won two FA Community Shield titles with Arsenal, in the 2023-24 and 2026-27 seasons. He also helped the club win the Premier League title last season.
The wider fixture information accompanying the report lists Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on 31 October 2026, and Liverpool against Arsenal in the Premier League on 01 November 2026.
