Michael Olise moved to the top of Bayern Munich’s scoring charts for the season after playing a decisive role in their 6-1 victory over Magdeburg in the second round of the German Cup.
The France international scored twice and provided an assist as Bayern swept aside their opponents at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.
Olise opened the scoring after 10 minutes, converting a cross from Morocco international Ismael Saibari. He then set up Saibari for Bayern’s second goal in the 21st minute before adding his own second from the penalty spot five minutes after half-time.
His contribution took Olise’s tally to 12 goals for Bayern in all competitions since the start of the current season. According to French statistics outlet Stats Foot, that figure makes him the club’s leading scorer, ahead of team-mate Harry Kane, who has scored 10 times.
Kane was crowned the Ballon d’Or winner on Monday, but Olise’s display against Magdeburg also saw him become the Bundesliga’s highest-scoring player across all competitions since the beginning of the campaign.
The assist for Saibari’s goal moved Olise into second place in another notable statistical ranking. He has now been involved in 24 goals for club and country across Europe’s major leagues this season, having scored 16 and created eight.
That total puts him level with Kane, who has also contributed 24 goals, with 16 goals and eight assists.
Only Lamine Yamal has a higher total. The Barcelona and Spain forward has made 25 goal contributions, scoring 14 times and providing 11 assists.
Bayern’s comprehensive win over Magdeburg secured their progress in the German Cup, with Olise’s two goals and assist underlining his growing influence in the side.
