Hassan Kadesh is a doubt for Saudi Arabia’s 2027 AFC Asian Cup campaign after suffering an injury during the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup, known as Gulf 27.
Saudi Arabia will host the Asian Cup from 7 January to 5 February next year, but Al-Ittihad defender Kadesh could miss the tournament because of the seriousness of his injury.
Kadesh was hurt during Saudi Arabia’s victory over Oman in the second round of the Gulf 27 group stage. He subsequently underwent surgery in Finland on 9 October to treat an injury to the left rectus femoris muscle.
According to Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiah, the defender is expected to remain sidelined until the international break beginning in January. That period will coincide with the Asian Cup, placing his involvement in the competition in doubt.
His absence would be a significant setback for Saudi Arabia and manager Georgios Donis. Kadesh is regarded as one of the squad’s most experienced players and has been an important figure in the defence.
Saudi Arabia went on to win Gulf 27, beating the United Arab Emirates 2-0 in the final. It was the national team’s first tournament triumph in 23 years.
The injury has therefore left Kadesh facing a race against time to recover before the Asian Cup begins on home soil. While his return is expected to extend into the January international window, the timing of his rehabilitation could determine whether he is available to represent Saudi Arabia in the tournament.
