Ampem Darkoa Ladies have qualified for the CAF Women’s Champions League for the second time after defeating Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3-2 after extra time in the WAFU Zone B qualifying final.
The decisive match was completed in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, with Ampem Darkoa securing the final qualifying place for the 2026 tournament.
The Ghanaian champions and Edo Queens resumed the contest with the score level at 2-2, before Ampem Darkoa claimed victory during the additional 30 minutes.
The outcome brought an end to a qualification dispute that began on September 5 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The original match finished 2-2 after regulation time, but Edo Queens were initially declared winners after a 4-1 victory in the penalty shootout.
Ampem Darkoa challenged that decision through the Ghana Football Association, arguing that the match should have gone to extra time before penalties were taken.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) subsequently annulled the shootout result and ordered the final to restart from the beginning of extra time, consisting of two 15-minute periods.
That ruling was upheld by the CAF Appeal Board on October 16, allowing the delayed conclusion to take place in Cairo.
Ampem Darkoa, based in Techiman, previously represented Ghana in the competition in 2023. They finished fourth on that occasion and will now return to the continental tournament after overcoming Edo Queens in the rescheduled final.
The Ghanaian club have been drawn in Group B of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will face defending champions AS FAR of Morocco, Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda and USFAS Bamako of Mali.
The tournament will be held in Egypt from November 1 to 15, 2026.
Ampem Darkoa’s qualification means Ghana will again have representation in Africa’s premier women’s club competition.
