Burkina Faso will host the 2026 WAFU B African Schools Football Championship after Nigeria withdrew as the original venue, with the tournament now scheduled to take place in Ouagadougou.
Nigeria had been due to stage the Under-15 competition from 6 to 9 December 2026. However, the Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to withdraw led to a change of host, allowing Burkina Faso to take over the organisation of the regional event.
The tournament is organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as part of efforts to develop grassroots football and give young players an opportunity to demonstrate their talent in a competitive environment.
Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin and Niger are expected to take part. The teams will compete for WAFU B honours, as well as the opportunity to progress towards the continental finals.
Ghana will enter both boys’ and girls’ national Under-15 teams. The Black Damsels will defend two titles after winning the WAFU B zonal competition and the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
The Ghanaian girls will attempt to retain both trophies and continue the country’s strong record in the competition. Ghana’s boys, meanwhile, will look to establish themselves against their regional opponents.
The championship will also provide a further platform for identifying and developing promising young footballers from across West Africa.
