Asante Kotoko interim manager Hamza Obeng says his side should have taken all three points from their 1-1 draw away to FC AshantiGold in the Ghana Premier League.
The record Ghanaian league holders were held by the elite-division newcomers at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday in a Matchday 8 contest.
Samuel Fosu Boateng put FC AshantiGold ahead in the 41st minute before Patrick Asiedu equalised for Asante Kotoko 24 minutes after half-time.
Despite the outcome, Obeng believes the performance of his players warranted victory and described the result as unfair.
“It’s not a fair result. For us we started well, from building from behind and building the play but at some part we missed our way,” he said at his post-match press conference.
“At halftime we talked to the players, and in the second half we started playing better. They controlled the build-up from behind and created chances.
“It’s better drawing than losing. So now we need to prepare and make sure we go all out to pick three points in our next match.”
The result preserved a share of the points in a tense encounter between Asante Kotoko and the newly promoted FC AshantiGold.
Obeng and his team will return to action on Sunday when they host 2025/26 GPL Champions Medeama SC in Kumasi.
The match will be Asante Kotoko’s next opportunity to claim three points after being forced to settle for a draw at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
