Asante Kotoko’s stop-gap coach Hamza Obeng has called on his forwards to become more clinical as the club looks to improve its attacking output in the Ghana Premier League.
Isaac Opoku, Emmanuel Mamah and Solomon Nsoh have scored five goals between them for the Porcupine Warriors this season. While Obeng is pleased with their progress, he believes the attacking trio must contribute more in front of goal.
The coach says converting chances is the primary duty of Kotoko’s forwards and has challenged them to show greater composure when opportunities arise.
“Much better, but they need to improve more because that’s their hallmark. The only thing we need from them is for them to put the ball in the back of the net,” he said.
Obeng’s comments come with Kotoko’s midfielders creating opportunities in the final third. He believes the team’s attackers must make better use of the service they receive rather than allowing promising chances to go to waste.
The coach has particularly stressed the importance of patience and composure in attacking areas, where decision-making can determine whether an opening results in a goal.
“The midfielders are able to create the chances in the final third, and the only thing we need from them is to exercise patience, have composure in the attacking third and put the ball at the net,” he added.
With the club seeking greater consistency and a stronger return in front of goal, Obeng will hope his forwards respond by improving their conversion rate in Kotoko’s remaining league matches.
