Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has donated GH¢100,000 to the Black Challenge as the national amputee football team prepares for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
Stonebwoy presented the money during a courtesy visit to the squad at Mensah Sarbah Park at the University of Ghana last Friday. He also joined the players for a short football session during his time with the team.
Speaking to the players, Stonebwoy said he had previously relied on crutches to walk and stressed that disability should never be treated as a source of amusement.
He criticised people who mock those living with disabilities, describing such conduct as evidence of immaturity and ignorance.
“Nothing about disability is funny,” he said.
Stonebwoy called on the Black Challenge to perform at their highest level in Mexico and urged Ghanaians to support the team in the same way they back the senior national side, the Black Stars.
The musician recognised the difficulties the players have faced but said their personal journeys could encourage others and bring blessings to people around them.
The donation was received by Mrs Farida Iddris, an executive member of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and the Ghana Swimming Association, together with the Black Challenge captain.
The team will enter the tournament with a strong record in African competition. Ghana have won the continental title three times, in 2021, 2023 and 2025, and will now seek to carry that form onto the world stage.
Before travelling to Mexico, the Black Challenge will go to Turkey for their final preparations. They will then move on to San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, for the tournament.
Ghana have been placed in a group with Iraq, Angola and Colombia. Their campaign will offer the team an opportunity to convert their dominance in continental competition into success at global level.
President of the African Paralympic Committee Samson Deen has also expressed confidence in the squad’s chances of producing a strong performance at the championship.
