Asante Kotoko have opened talks with representatives of Costa Papic as they seek a permanent replacement for former head coach Eric Tinkler.
The Kumasi-based club are assessing several candidates for the vacant role, with the experienced Serbian coach among those being considered. However, no agreement has yet been reached with Papic or any of the other individuals under consideration.
Tinkler, a South African, left the Porcupine Warriors after only a few matches of the 2026/2027 season to take charge of Durban City. His departure has left Kotoko looking for a substantive manager while the campaign is under way.
Papic’s previous work in Ghanaian football is understood to be a factor in Kotoko’s interest. He has managed Hearts of Oak twice, first between 2007 and 2009 before returning for a second spell during the 2020/2021 season.
That experience of the Ghana Premier League could appeal to Kotoko as they look for a coach capable of providing greater stability and improving the team’s performances. The club are yet to confirm whether Papic is their preferred candidate or whether negotiations will progress to an agreement.
Kotoko have made an uneven start to the current league campaign. They have recorded three wins, two draws and two defeats from their opening seven matches.
Those results have left the record Ghana Premier League champions on 11 points and eighth in the table after seven games. The club will be hoping to appoint a new head coach soon as they attempt to build consistency and climb the standings.
Although discussions with Papic’s representatives have reportedly started, the outcome remains uncertain. Asante Kotoko have not made an official announcement about their next managerial appointment.
