Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona.
The 25-year-old Georgia international was injured in a challenge with Xavi Espart and was unable to put weight on his right leg. He was replaced in the 59th minute at Parc des Princes.
PSG have not given a timescale for Kvaratskhelia’s return to action.
Kvaratskhelia addressed the injury in a statement posted on Instagram, saying: “Before every game I play, I ask God to leave the field healthy, but in vain.
“I probably prepared for this game the best I have ever prepared for. I thought I was prepared for everything.
“I realise that God chose me and if I protected the players on another field, I’m ready to go through these months of hard work, pain, tears.
“I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always have my back. I won’t let you down, I promise, I won’t waste a second.”
Kvaratskhelia joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and has helped the French club win back-to-back Champions League titles. He has made 11 appearances for PSG this season.
PSG also lose Dembele and Marquinhos
PSG confirmed that Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos will also be sidelined for a “few weeks”.
Dembele went off with an injury to his left thigh, while Marquinhos suffered a problem with his right thigh.
The injuries came during a match in which PSG maintained their winning start to their Champions League title defence. The teams were level at 2-2 with 10 minutes remaining before the hosts scored twice late on to secure victory.
PSG are top of the table after winning all three of their matches in the competition.
