FIFA has approved a new financial distribution model for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, including US$2.5 million in preparation funding for each participating member association.
The decision was made by the Bureau of the FIFA Council after the council met in Zurich, Switzerland, on 15 October 2026.
The funding model will include prize money, preparation payments and the FIFA Club Benefits Programme. Players competing at the tournament in Brazil will also receive the same level of services as players at the 2026 Men’s World Cup.
FIFA said any surplus generated by the women’s tournament would be shared among the participating member associations, with a specific amount set aside for players.
Further information about the distribution model is expected to be considered at the next FIFA Council meeting in December 2026.
United States to host first Women’s Club World Cup
The United States has been selected to stage the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, which will take place from 5 to 30 January 2028.
FIFA said the decision reflected the country’s experience of hosting its tournaments, its established infrastructure and services, and strong interest among stakeholders in women’s football.
Places at the competition will be allocated according to clubs’ sporting performances in their respective confederations’ leading club competitions. Results across a four-year period, covering the seasons ending in 2024 and 2027, will be used to determine qualification.
The Bureau also changed the schedule for the final phase of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027. The event will now be held in Miami from 26 to 31 January, with the two semi-finals played on separate days to increase the competition’s visibility.
Qatar awarded Intercontinental Cup fixtures
Qatar has been appointed host of the final three matches of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026.
The FIFA Derby of the Americas will be played on 9 December, followed by the FIFA Challenger Cup on 12 December. The final is scheduled for 16 December.
FIFA also confirmed the dates for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan from 17 September to 9 October.
In its final decision, the Bureau appointed a normalisation committee to oversee the Nigeria Football Federation until 31 May 2027 at the latest.
