Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has called on Ghana to prioritise the long-term development of the national team rather than focus solely on immediate success at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Vanderpuye believes Ghana should begin a sustained rebuilding process aimed at creating a side capable of competing consistently at the highest level.
Speaking to Akoma FM, he said the country needed to look beyond its next two major international tournaments and develop a clear plan for the years ahead.
“Forget the 2030 World Cup and 2027 AFCON. Focus on building a strong team for the next eight years,” he said.
His comments highlight the importance of long-term planning in shaping the future of the national team, rather than allowing pressure for immediate results to dictate its direction.
Ghana will be seeking a strong performance at the 2027 AFCON and qualification for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. However, Vanderpuye believes those targets should not take precedence over building a team that can remain competitive over an extended period.
