FC Samartex ended Medeama SC’s unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season with a dramatic 2-1 victory in their match-week 7 meeting at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex in Samreboi.
The Timber Giants secured their first win after a contest that remained goalless at half-time but produced an increasingly tense second period. The result also handed the reigning champions their first defeat of the campaign.
Samartex took the lead 11 minutes after the restart when Joshua Fuseini found the net in the 56th minute. His goal put the home side in control and left them within reach of claiming all three points.
Medeama, known as the Mauve and Yellows, responded in the 78th minute through Dominic Amponsah. His equaliser appeared to have put the league leaders on course for at least a point and ensured a tense conclusion in Samreboi.
However, Samartex had the final say. Christian Agyenim Boateng scored late to restore the hosts’ advantage and complete the victory. It was another late decisive contribution from Boateng, who also struck against Kotoko weeks ago.
The winning goal sparked celebrations among the home supporters as Samartex brought Medeama’s unbeaten run to an end. The champions had to leave Samreboi without the point they had appeared set to secure.
FC Samartex will now prepare for an away match against Berekum Chelsea. Medeama, meanwhile, will return to Tarkwa next week to face Aduana FC in what is expected to be a difficult fixture.
