Ghana’s Black Challenge are determined to represent their country and the African continent with distinction at the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico, head coach Richard Obeng says.
The national team stepped up its preparations with a training session at Mensah Sarbah Park at the University of Ghana on Thursday.
All 15 players selected for Ghana’s squad took part as the team focused on improving fitness and building match readiness ahead of the tournament.
Obeng said the squad was progressing well as preparations continued.
“Training has been good. The boys are on course, and we’re bringing them back into shape and to their peak,” he told JoySports.
Ghana have been placed in Group D with Angola, Iraq and Colombia, setting up a demanding challenge in their bid to reach the knockout stage.
The head coach said his players would treat every fixture with the same level of seriousness, regardless of the opposition. He warned that the team could not afford to become complacent during the group phase.
“We’re not going to have it easy from the group stage. Every game we play is a final,” he said.
Obeng added that the squad’s determination extended from the coaching staff to the players, with victory in every match viewed as essential to their wider objective.
“That is how we’ve psyched our minds, from the technical team to the playing body. Every team we face is a final game for us, one we are supposed to win to make ourselves, our families, Ghanaians and the continent as a whole proud.”
The Black Challenge will first travel to Turkey for a camping exercise before continuing to Mexico for the 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup.
The camp is part of Ghana’s final build-up to the competition, where they will begin their campaign against the teams drawn alongside them in Group D.
