Suniel has been named the official sponsor of Ghana’s national minifootball teams after the Minifootball Association of Ghana formally introduced the sides at a media event in Accra.
The Ghanaian company will provide the teams with their full playing kits as they prepare for international assignments. The sponsorship is expected to provide an important boost to the national men’s and women’s minifootball teams, as well as the women’s handball team involved in the presentation.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, 27 August, at the Ministry of Information and brought together senior figures from Ghana’s sporting community.
Those present included National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Minifootball Association President Bernard Paakow Ekumah, Secretary-General Emmanuel Anyetei Adjei and Suniel chief executive Daniel Kotey Adjei.
Ghana Police Sports Director ASP Bernice Rashidatu Abdulai Timbilla and Handball Association President Nii Lante Bannerman also attended, alongside members of the national women’s minifootball and handball teams.
Ankrah welcomed the agreement and said Suniel’s involvement came at an important time for sport in Ghana.
“I am excited about this support. This is a great moral booster for our sports and the right direction to reset Ghana sports,” he said.
Kotey Adjei said Suniel’s decision to support the teams reflected the company’s wider aim of creating opportunities for young people.
“I have been told this is the first time in the history of Ghana that a local Ghanaian company has fully equipped a national team,” he said. “We believe in giving opportunities to the youth, training and equipping them to compete internationally.”
The sponsorship comes as the Minifootball Association of Ghana seeks greater backing for the sport and for its national teams. Ekumah called on the public and corporate organisations to support the players ahead of their forthcoming competitions.
“This is a growing sport which we all have to pull along. Support us, and I know my team will not disappoint us. Wear your Ghana colours and support us,” he said.
Timbilla delivered a message of support on behalf of the Ghana Police Service, expressing solidarity with the national teams and the association.
“We stand together in solidarity to achieve greater heights. In our weakness, we stand together; in our strength, we stand together. The Ghana Police Service stands with you,” she said.
The event ended with Suniel presenting official kits to several representatives of Ghana’s sporting institutions and national teams. Recipients included the National Sports Authority Director-General, NSA Board Chairman Dr. Fred Awaah, the national men’s minifootball team, the women’s minifootball team and the women’s handball team.
The presentation formally marked Suniel’s role in fully equipping the teams as Ghana prepares its national representatives for their upcoming international commitments.
