Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of 18-year-old right-back Emmanuel Sanja from Vision FC after he passed his medical examination.
Sanja agreed a three-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors on Tuesday, bringing to an end his time with Vision FC and securing a move to one of the clubs he has long felt connected to.
The defender made 25 appearances in the Ghana Premier League for Vision FC last season, contributing three goals and two assists. His performances also earned him five Most Valuable Player awards during the campaign.
Sanja’s form was recognised at international level when he received a call-up to Ghana’s National Under-23 side, the Black Meteors.
The move gives Asante Kotoko a young option at right-back and adds a player whose recent experience includes a full Ghana Premier League season. Although Sanja is only 18, he has already established himself in senior football through his regular involvement for Vision FC.
Speaking to scasantekotoko.com after completing the transfer, Sanja explained that his decision was shaped by both his personal connection to the club and his admiration for its appeal to young players.
“It was not a difficult decision to join Kotoko as it is where I am from and where I completed my senior high education. It felt like returning home after a long holiday. Kotoko is always an attractive club for most young players and i am prepared to play my best football for the club that my family supports.”
Sanja’s comments underline the personal significance of the move. He described joining Asante Kotoko as a return home, having been born in the area and completed his senior high education there.
His transfer also represents the next step in a rapid rise that has taken him from regular domestic football with Vision FC to recognition from the Black Meteors. The five MVP awards he collected last season further highlighted the impact he had during his 25 Ghana Premier League appearances.
Asante Kotoko announced the agreement after the medical process was successfully completed, with the contract committing Sanja to the club for three years. The teenager will now continue his development with the Porcupine Warriors after earning his opportunity through a productive season at Vision FC.
For Sanja, the challenge is to build on the goals, assists and individual awards that marked his previous campaign. His stated ambition is to produce his best football for the club supported by his family, while Asante Kotoko have secured a young defender with domestic league experience and international recognition at Under-23 level.
