Ghana-eligible defender Evann Seyram Junior Senaya has joined Swiss Challenge League club FC Rapperswil-Jona on a season-long loan from FC Basel for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 20-year-old will spend the season with Rapperswil-Jona as he looks to secure regular first-team football and continue his development away from Basel. The agreement does not contain an option for Rapperswil-Jona to buy him, meaning Senaya is expected to return to FC Basel when the loan ends.
Senaya is the younger brother of Marvin Senaya, the Auxerre defender who represents Ghana’s Black Stars. His move gives him the opportunity to gain more senior experience while remaining contracted to one of Swiss football’s leading clubs.
He joined the FC Basel academy in 2019 and has progressed through the club’s youth system over the past seven years. That development eventually led to his promotion to FC Basel’s U21 side.
Senaya is comfortable operating in defensive positions and is considered a promising player with considerable scope for further improvement. His switch to FC Rapperswil-Jona is intended to provide him with a regular competitive environment as he continues his progression.
At international level, Senaya remains eligible to represent Ghana, France or Togo. He is among a group of dual-national players being monitored in anticipation of possible future international call-ups.
His brother Marvin, meanwhile, continues his rehabilitation from an injury suffered while playing for Ghana in the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match against Colombia. The Auxerre player remains part of Ghana’s international set-up as he works his way back from that setback.
Junior Senaya’s immediate focus will be on his season with Rapperswil-Jona in the Swiss Challenge League. His performances there will be closely followed by FC Basel, which retains him for the duration of the temporary move and expects him to return at the end of the 2026/27 season.
