The Ghana Football Association has presented buses to five clubs in recognition of their performances during the 2024-25 season, with President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku handing over the keys through the organisation’s Merit Awards Programme.
The recipients are Eleven Wonders FC, Swedru Black Stars and Port City FC, together with Women’s Premier League clubs Police Ladies FC and Dreamz FC.
The presentation is part of the GFA’s wider effort to acknowledge achievement in domestic football while also helping clubs deal with the practical demands of running teams and travelling for matches.
The awards scheme combines recognition for sporting performances with a transport intervention designed to support clubs across the domestic game. By providing buses, the Football Association is seeking to ease some of the logistical pressures faced by teams competing in the Women’s Premier League and Division One League.
The latest handover takes the total number of buses distributed to clubs in those two competitions to 18 under the GFA’s comprehensive Bus Strategy.
That figure includes the five buses presented to the latest award winners. The intervention covers clubs from both the women’s top-flight competition and the Division One League, reflecting the Football Association’s stated intention to support football at different levels of the domestic structure.
Eleven Wonders FC, Swedru Black Stars and Port City FC were among the clubs recognised through the latest presentation. Police Ladies FC and Dreamz FC, both Women’s Premier League sides, completed the group of five beneficiaries.
The keys were presented by Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku as part of the Football Association’s Merit Awards Programme. The programme is intended to reward excellence while contributing to the operational needs of the clubs involved.
Wider transport support
The GFA’s transport plans extend beyond the provision of buses to clubs. The Football Association has also increased its own institutional transport capacity through the FIFA Forward Programme.
The latest presentation therefore forms part of a broader approach to transport within Ghanaian football. At club level, the Bus Strategy has delivered vehicles to Women’s Premier League and Division One League teams. At institutional level, support through the FIFA Forward Programme has strengthened the Football Association’s transport resources.
The GFA says the awards and transport measures are linked to two objectives: recognising football excellence and reducing the logistical challenges that affect clubs across the domestic football landscape.
The presentation follows the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, during which the five clubs were selected for recognition under the Merit Awards Programme. Their inclusion brings the number of buses distributed under the GFA’s Bus Strategy to 18.
The initiative represents one of the Football Association’s continuing efforts to provide practical support alongside its recognition of performances on the pitch.
