Harry Kane is expected to begin negotiations over a new contract with Bayern Munich in early August, with the German champions keen to secure the long-term future of their leading goalscorer.
The England striker is due to meet club officials once his holiday has ended, despite having a current agreement with Bayern Munich that runs until the summer of 2027. The discussions will focus on extending a partnership that began when Kane moved to the Allianz Arena from Tottenham.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, citing reports from German media, Bayern have already begun preparations for the talks. Several German outlets have reported that formal negotiations will start at the beginning of August, with the club looking to keep Kane beyond the remaining period of his existing contract.
Kane spent a family holiday in the Caribbean after representing England at the World Cup. He is expected to return to Bayern Munich training after the club’s Asian tour, which runs from 1 to 8 August.
Despite speculation about his future in recent months, Kane has shown no indication that he wants to leave Bayern Munich. Instead, the 32-year-old is understood to be open to extending his stay in Germany and continuing his career at the Allianz Arena.
Contract length expected to be the key issue
Kane currently earns about 25m euros a year, making him one of Bayern Munich’s highest-paid players. Bild reports that salary is unlikely to become the main obstacle in the negotiations, with the club not expected to seek a reduction in the striker’s wages.
Bayern regard Kane as a central figure in their sporting project following his arrival from Tottenham. His status within the team means the financial terms of a new agreement are not expected to prevent an extension.
The more difficult question is likely to be the length of the proposed contract. Bayern Munich are planning to make an initial offer that would keep Kane at the club until at least 2029.
Kane’s representatives, however, want an agreement that allows him to continue competing at the highest level in the coming years. His plans include remaining in contention for the 2030 World Cup, making the duration of any new deal a particularly important part of the negotiations.
The striker wants to preserve his ability to compete for major honours with both Bayern Munich and England. That ambition is expected to influence the discussions as much as the financial details.
Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl and chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen are expected to lead the club’s negotiations with Kane’s representatives. On the player’s side, his father and brother will represent his interests.
Both parties are understood to have a clear preference for reaching an agreement that keeps Kane in Bavaria. Although several clubs have expressed interest, the England captain has not indicated that he is seriously considering a move elsewhere.
Barcelona and Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal are among those linked with the striker, particularly after Kane finished the season as the Bundesliga’s top scorer. His form has strengthened outside interest, but it has not changed his immediate priorities.
Kane’s focus remains on continuing with Bayern Munich, winning more trophies with the German club and maintaining his international career with England. A return to Tottenham is also not currently part of his plans, despite the club’s importance in launching his career and establishing him as one of English football’s leading forwards.
For now, Kane’s future appears increasingly likely to remain in Germany. The central question in the forthcoming talks will be how long Bayern Munich can retain their captain and prolific goalscorer.
