The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Association Ghana (CGA Ghana) have praised Team Ghana’s “inspiring” performance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, highlighting the delegation’s determination, resilience and fighting spirit.
In a statement issued on 2 August 2026, the two organisations said Ghana’s athletes had competed with commitment and pride against some of the Commonwealth’s leading competitors. They described the team’s campaign as a reflection of the country’s “never-say-die” attitude.
Team Ghana faced strong opposition from world-class athletes but produced notable performances in a range of disciplines. The GOC and CGA Ghana said the athletes had demonstrated talent, discipline and potential throughout the Games.
Particular recognition was given to Ghana’s medal winners. Zinabu Issah claimed silver in the women’s F57 shot put, while Amadu Mohammed secured bronze in the men’s 55kg boxing category.
The organisations also praised Ghana’s 4x100m relay team of Joseph Paul Amoah, Mustapha Bokpin, Saminu Rasheed-Abdul and Benjamin Azamati. The quartet was commended for its teamwork, speed and determination while competing against some of the world’s leading sprinting nations.
The praise extended beyond those who won medals. The GOC and CGA Ghana recognised the full Team Ghana delegation, including athletes who represented the country in athletics, para athletics, boxing, cycling, judo, swimming, para swimming, para powerlifting and weightlifting.
They also highlighted the contribution of competitors who advanced deep into their events, as well as those who narrowly missed out on medal places. Their efforts, the statement said, had helped Ghana maintain a proud presence in Glasgow.
“The true success of Team Ghana’s campaign was beyond medals won, but the courage, unity, resilience and fighting spirit displayed against world-class opposition,” the statement said.
The GOC and CGA Ghana also thanked the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, for its support. Corporate partners, including GCB Bank PLC and Eezy Group Foundation, the Ghana Sports Fund, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel and team management were also acknowledged.
The statement further expressed appreciation to the media, Ghana’s High Commission to the United Kingdom and the Ghanaian community in Scotland for their backing during the Games.
With the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games now concluded, the organisations said the experience gained by Ghana’s athletes would provide a platform for future progress. Attention will now turn towards preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The GOC and CGA Ghana said Ghana would need to build on the performances through improved preparation, targeted athlete development and stronger support systems. They said those measures would be important in maintaining the country’s progress on the international stage.
The organisations concluded by congratulating every athlete and member of the delegation, saying they had made Ghana proud, and urged them to continue pursuing excellence in future international competition.
