The Accra Inter-City Marathon will return on Saturday, 10 October 2026 with soft drink brand Tampico installed as headline sponsor and naming partner for what organisers expect to be one of Ghana’s biggest road races.
The fourth edition of the event will officially be called the Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon and is projected to draw more than 2,000 runners from across the country, ranging from elite athletes to recreational joggers, school teams and corporate entrants.
Race organisers have also confirmed that the 2026 event will double as the inaugural “Tampico Day”, an annual celebration aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles, greater community participation and fitness through sport.
Tampico commitment to ‘active lifestyle’
The sponsorship has been agreed with Acadia Industries Limited, producers of Tampico in Ghana, in a deal that places the brand at the centre of the marathon’s long-term development.
Fady Helou, Director of Sales and Marketing at Acadia Industries Limited, said the partnership was rooted in Tampico’s desire to promote active living.
“At Tampico, we believe in bringing people together through moments of energy, fun, and healthy living. We are proud to partner with the Accra Inter-City Marathon and establish ‘Tampico Day’ as an annual celebration that inspires Ghanaians to embrace an active lifestyle.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting communities and creating memorable experiences for families, athletes, and consumers across the country. We look forward to welcoming thousands of participants to what promises to be Ghana’s biggest and most exciting road race.”
Organisers target over 2,000 runners
Race Director William Ezah welcomed Tampico’s elevation to title sponsor and underlined the event’s wider ambitions beyond competition.
He said the Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon, which will be staged in conjunction with Tampico Day, had been carefully designed to unite a broad cross-section of society around the themes of health and community.
“The Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon, organised to commemorate Tampico Day, is designed to bring people together in a celebration of health, fitness, and community while creating a memorable experience for athletes, participants, and spectators alike.
“We are looking forward to welcoming over 2,000 participants, including professional athletes, keep-fit clubs, fitness groups, race lovers, schools, and corporate organisations, to celebrate fitness and healthy living on Tampico Day. We are grateful to Acadia Industries Limited for making Tampico the headline sponsor and for sharing our vision of promoting wellness through sport.”
Growing status since 2022
Launched in 2022, the Accra Inter-City Marathon has quickly developed into one of Ghana’s leading road-running fixtures, helping to promote both middle-distance and long-distance racing.
Beyond the elite competition, organisers say the event has become a platform for encouraging regular exercise, community involvement and a culture of wellness among Ghanaians of all ages.
With Tampico now attached as title sponsor and Tampico Day established as an annual focal point, the 2026 edition is being positioned as a landmark moment in the marathon’s short but rapidly evolving history.
