G.B. Jones, Chief Safety and Security Officer for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has urged fans to familiarise themselves with stadium safety regulations ahead of next year’s tournament.
Speaking at a forum organised by the Africa Center of the Atlantic Council, Jones highlighted that several popular fan items including some musical instruments, fireworks, and other pyrotechnics — will be banned across venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
He emphasised that the restrictions are not meant to dampen fan culture, but to ensure a safe environment for all attendees.
“With respect to what to bring to the World Cup, we want you to bring your passion, but leave your pyro. We don’t want fireworks with smoke or pyrotechnics in the stadium. But we want to embrace the passion,” Jones said.
Fans are encouraged to check FIFA’s official website and ticketing platforms for a full list of prohibited items to avoid inconveniences on matchdays.
FIFA continues to support fan-driven colour and energy, including banners and flags, provided they meet safety requirements.
“We want fans to bring items that enhance their celebration, but within the limits set for safety,” Jones added.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, is scheduled to run from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
