Ghana suffered their first defeat of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 loss to Comoros which sees them miss the Group I top spot.

It was an opportunity for the Black Stars move to the summit of the table after Mali were held to a 1-1 draw by Central Africa Republic but Myziane Maolida’a effort just two minutes to half time was enough to secure three points for the home side.

Chris Hughton will rue the chances missed especially after Antoine Semenyo was teed up by Inaki Williams in the 5th minute but the Bournemouth striker’ shot went wide.

Jordan Ayew and Mohammed Kudus close close to restoring parity with attempts on goal but did not found the back of the net.

Ernest Nuamah thought he had equalized for Ghana in the 65th minute but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Comoros held on firm to inflict Ghana their first defeat in the qualifiers.

Ghana sit in third in Group I and face Mali in May 2024 in their next match.
