Asante Kotoko will look to return to winning ways when they welcome Bibiani GoldStars to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday in an outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture.
The encounter, originally slated for September, was postponed due to both clubs’ participation in Africa. Kotoko advanced in the CAF Confederation Cup after edging Nigeria’s Kwara United, while GoldStars were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Algerian side JS Kabylie.
Back in domestic action, both sides are eager to keep their league momentum going. Kotoko were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Heart of Lions in their last game, while GoldStars recorded a 2-1 victory over Swedru All Blacks.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Kotoko head coach Karim Zito set the tone for what promises to be an intense affair.
“Our plan was to make sure any team that comes to the Baba Yara Stadium goes home without a point,” he said. “Drawing against Heart of Lions means there will be no excuses on Wednesday — we have to beat Bibiani GoldStars.”
The two teams have built a competitive rivalry over the past year. Since September 2023, they’ve met six times, with Kotoko winning three, GoldStars two, and one ending in a draw. Kotoko have scored five goals in those meetings, one more than GoldStars.
Statistically, the Porcupine Warriors have had a solid start to the 2025/26 campaign ; one win and one draw, with two clean sheets. GoldStars, on the other hand, have been sharper in attack, winning both opening games and scoring three goals.
Kotoko beat GoldStars in the Champion of Champions fixture before the season began, just weeks after the Bibiani side lifted the GHALCA Top 4 title at their expense.
With pride, form, and early-season momentum on the line, Wednesday’s clash in Kumasi is set to add another fierce chapter to an already growing rivalry between two of Ghana’s most talked-about clubs.
