Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku is fired up for the 2025 Unity Cup.
Ghana is expected to play Nigeria on May 28 in a keenly anticipated Derby.
A number of high-profile players are expected to miss out on the game due to the fixture falling outside Fifa’s calendar.
Nigeria’s Victort Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were major absentees from their squad to face Ghana, while Black Stars management Committee chairman Randy Abbey confirmed to 3Sports that a number of well-known players were going to equally miss out for Ghana.
Randy Abbey also did review that the tournament is an opportunity for some local players to make an impression.
One of those players who is eager to take the bull by the horn is Kotoko’s Kwame Opoku, who confirmed to Max TV he has been called up.
“I’ve heard a lot about the Unity Cup. I heard it fosters unity among nations, footballers, and others. Hopefully, we will achieve the purpose of the competition at the end of the day,” he told Max TV.
“The name justifies the competition. We are not looking to overly exert ourselves. It’s a friendly game to promote Unity and that’s what we’ll be focused on,” he added.
