Host nation Morocco were made to settle for a point in the opening game of the 2024 WAFCON with a spirit-filled Zambian performance in the opening game of the 20204 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Zambia shot ahead through forward Barbra Banda after 52 seconds.
Morocco levelled the game from the spot as Ibtissam Jraidi held her nerve to finish.
But it was the Zambians who took the lead again after a lovely combination play between Banda and Racheal Kundananji saw the latter slipped through on goal to finish.
Zambia did all they could to hold on for a slender 2-1 win but it was not to be.
Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak struck right at the death to ensure the hosts earned a hard-fought point in the opening game of the tournament.
Morocco take on Dr Congo on July 9 whilst Zambia face Senegal on the same day in their next outings.
