The Black Queens will fight for third place in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 4-2 penalty loss to hosts Morocco in the semi-finals.
The match at the Stade de Olympique Rabat on Tuesday, July 22 had ended 1-1.
Ghana scored in the first half through Stella Nyamekye but the Atlas Lionesses came back from the break strongly to equalise through eventual Player of the Match Sakina Ouzraoui in the 55th minute.
But the match went into extra time, for which no extra goals were scored.
Coach Kim Lars Björkegren threw all his cards on the table, bringing on the likes of Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu and Sherifatu Sumaila.
His opposite number, Jorge Vilda, also rang the changes to no avail.In the ensuing penalty shoot-outs, Badu and Comfort Yeboah, whose error led to the equaliser, missed their kicks while the hosts converted all of theirs.
It ended 4-2 with the Lionesses set to face record champions Nigeria in the final on Saturday.
The Black Queens will play South Africa’s Banyana Banyana again for Bronze on Friday.
