Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is pinning his hopes on luck to favor his team when they face Mali in their second Group C match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Friday.
Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to South Africa in their opening game, while Mali edged out Tanzania 1-0.
Bjorkegren believes his team played well against South Africa but was unlucky not to score.
“We hit the bar twice [against South Africa] and we did everything right if we take away the most important thing [to score goals],” he said. “Hopefully we will have a little bit more luck in the next round.”
The match against Mali is crucial for Ghana’s chances of advancing to the next round, and Bjorkegren’s team will need to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. The game is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
A win would significantly boost Ghana’s prospects of progressing in the competition.
The Black Queens will look to bounce back from their opening defeat and make a strong impression against Mali.
