Former Black Queens captain Adjoa Bayor has praised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for doubling the prize money for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) winner to $1 million.
Bayor commended CAF’s investment in women’s football, saying,
“There is a big difference from an organization point of view as well as financially speaking. The prize money is now up to $1m. That is massive from CAF.”
The total prize money for WAFCON 2024 has increased by 45% to $3.475 million, with the runner-up receiving $500,000, third-place teams earning $350,000, and fourth-place teams taking home $300,000.
Quarterfinalists will receive $200,000 each.Ghana’s Black Queens began their WAFCON campaign with a 2-0 loss to South Africa.
They’ll face Mali on July 11 at 16:00 GMT in their second Group C match.
