2023 U-23 AfconQ: Meteors coach Tanko confident ahead of Mozambique tie

Black Meteors coach, Ibrahim Tanko is positive about building a solid squad for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Mozambique.

Ghana face the Mozambicans for a spot in the next round of qualifiers and overcame Dreams FC 2-1 in a friendly Wednesday.

Tanko has been speaking after the match and is confident of building a formidable side for the match.

Definitely, we are looking for three or four foreign-based players. We are preparing very well.

“We still have two weeks to the game and I think by then we will be ready,” he told reporters.

“If you look at the squad, we have almost six or seven players from Zito’s squad. We hope that they will show us something so that they can stay.”

“As you know, it’s a national team. It doesn’t matter if you played for the Under-20s or not.

“We want to assemble the best ones and in two weeks, we will have a good team.”

The Black Meteors will travel to Mozambique for the first leg of the U-23 Afcon second-round qualifier on October 20.

Ghana will host the return encounter on  October 27.

The winner of the tie will face either Algeria or DR Congo for a slot at next year’s U-23 Afcon in Morocco.
